Elections Matter
The 2024 presidential election is regarded as one of the most pivotal in our lifetime, marking a crucial moment in our nation’s history. At this crossroads, we believe it’s essential to foster a space for meaningful, thought-provoking discussions about the future of our country. In this bold exhibition, we invite activist artists to examine the questions that arise from the current state of American politics. We are particularly interested in the diverse narratives emerging from the ceramics community within this
contemporary political landscape.
In presidential election years like 2024, the promise of democracy reemerges in the consciousness of Americans. Throughout our history, artists have wrestled with, and reimagined what democracy and being American means. Each artist in this exhibition reveals a piece of the multifaceted, personal, and often contentious nature of democracy in the United States.
Elections serve as a catalyst for debating the nation's priorities and provide a moment of deep national reflection. Through our votes, we express how we wish to be represented and what values we want to guide our future. Since the founding of the United States, democracy has been a deeply emotional and poignant concept—invoked as ideology, weapon, source of pride, and national identity.
Through your artistic expression, we seek to harness the power of creativity to spark conversations, challenge perspectives, and uncover shared experiences. By embracing this often-taboo subject of politics, we assert our belief that art has the unique ability to
transcend ideological divides and inspire dialogue that propels our community forward.
