A barni is a jar used to store Indian pickled vegetables and ghee. Most houses in India have a few ceramic barnis in their pantries. They are a simple off-white color with stripe of light brown glaze on the top and on the lid. My take on this functional jar was to get these barnis out of the dark pantries onto the kitchen island for full display. My jar is decorated with intricate designs inspired by Kantha embroidery from the state of West Bengal and the red lid is inspired by the spire of temple architecture.
