Katie Lee 1919-2017
A free-spirited folk singer and environmental activist who found her mission as a performer and writer, Katie Lee protested the loss of Glen Canyon’s spectacular beauty to a dam on the Colorado River. Eloquent and blissfully profane, Ms. Lee joined conservationists like David Brower, executive director of the Sierra Club, and the writer Edward Abbey to try to stop construction of the 710-foot-high Glen Canyon Dam in Northern Arizona. Ms. Lee never forgave the builders of the dam and said the only thing that prevented her from blowing it up was that she did not know how.
Pinyon Jay populations have declined by 85% between 1970 and 2014, Pinyon Jays will lose another half of their remaining population by 2036.
