Marty Godchaux 1941-2023
A volcanic geologist and researcher, Martha Godchaux was a professor at the all women’s liberal arts college Mount Holyoke from 1971 to 1999. She built up their geology department from nonexistent to a highly revered geology program, and she opened up the male-dominated field to many women. She also served as the geology and geography department chairperson for much of her time on the Mount Holyoke faculty. She moved to Moscow, Idaho and was employed by the Idaho Geological Survey researching Idaho’s geological features, alongside her husband, Bill.
Cassia Crossbill populations have declined by 60% between 2003 and 2008, and by another 80% by 2011. already vulnerable and at risk of extinction due to its small population size and geographic isolation.
